This is true. They do need more than hope. But I guess this post didn't really highlight the latter part, which is also what I was trying to stress - that hope has led some to act even when it seemed pointless to do so. Hence why I highlighted my respect for those people mentioned in a few of the articles I read. Because they had hope...and made something of it.

Just a different narrative that I wanted to think about on a day that could easily have focused on all that needed to be done in that city.
My recent post <a href="http://youngwritersblock.org/archives/2526" rel="nofollow">Week One- Mad Hatter Days</a>

I definitely agree with your last line there. That is all any of us can do, regardless of what we believe passionately.

The best argument I heard about this is that the area around ground zero actually has deteriorated with liquor stores, prostitution, etc... All memorial sites ought to be respectful and properly honor those who have lost their life. With that said, I have my doubts that the area right now properly honors those who lost their lives. The best any of us can do moving forward is to find a better way to express our disagreements while still showing each other love, compassion, kindness, and understanding.

I love that you wrote on this. I am really saddened that the deterioration in the education system has manifested in entire groups of people lacking the ability to correctly use the English language. As much as this is a funny story to me, I am really alarmed that a significant amount of the population fell through the cracks and use sub-par English as a result. When even one person does not life up to her potential, all of society falls to live up to its fullest potential.

Yawwnnn! New Orleans needs more than hope. The city needs dedicated hard working people willing to work until the job of rebuilding the city is done and then ready to maintain what was built. Hope is a nice idea. Hope sounds nice. The city really needs effective leadership and results. With that said, one of the inspiring moments I had when I was there in July was a community organic garden that an entire neighborhood maintained.
