Yes!  I talked about Afghanistan in yesterday’s post.  One of the things I pointed out was the missed opportunity that the U.S. had to step in and help rebuild in Afghanistan when it needed it most.  Today’s report of agriculture training program for Afghanistan and Pakistan is a good step in that direction.

What does all of the military intervention and tactical manuveurs accomplish if the citizens of the area are left with no means to survive and in a war-torn country?
Like I said, the past cannot be changed, but the future can always be considered.  Finding a way to revitalize the region and make it farm-able will not only provide a means to produce its own food, but will also earn the U.S. credibility in that region as aware of the issues that affect the people on the ground.
This is only the first step and I hope that the U.S. and other countries look into ways to rebuild Afghanistan’s infrastructure.  Also important, in regards to the current surge of the Taliban is this focus on developing Pakistan as well.  The people that the Taliban controls need to be offered an alternative and that alternative needs to be someone that can provide something better than what the Taliban are currently doing.
