The Apathy Remedy

He has made history though as the 8th governor impeached in U.S. history.  Congrats to him.  All  of the media blitzing, special appearances, smiling, and appealing did not help him get even ONE vote.  For all of the talk about an unfair trial, he made it unfair for himself by protesting to the point of absence, only to show up to his own trial the last day expecting to give a speech worthy of The Great Debaters.  Sorry but you win no compassion nor competition for the hearts and minds of Chicagoans or the legislator that revoked your license to serve.

I am glad his job is officially revoked, and upset that he was given the satisfaction of squeezing the senatorial appointment in before his impeachment.  I am sure Burris will serve well, but I felt he was a victim of circumstance, and we will always question just how much of a connection existed between Blago and hisself.

What amazes me out of all of this is his ability to still laugh and joke as though he is not accused of such grave allegations – or that he has not just been impeached.  What is this guy’s deal?!  At what point will he just give it up, remain somber, and take this seriously?  America will not be charmed out ofseeing proper justice served.  The VIEW is one of many influential shows, but even charming that entire panel of ladies was not enough to retain hisjob.  Except for Geraldo, I don’t think anyone sympathizes with  him.

Out with the old in with the new.  I just hope that the Now Governor Pat. Quinn can maintain a sense of decency and honor in office.  Judging from the history of Illinois politics, maybe our expectations should be low.  Pessimism aside, let’s just be glad that one step has been taken to correct the damage done by Blago’s conduct.
